Iceland
The Land of Fire and Ice

Last Roll of the Dice
My long solo trip to Iceland had been unsuccessful for aurora sightings until the very last night when I witnessed this fairly brief showing at the magnificent Vestrahorn mountain

The Mountain Who Came in From the Cold
After a fruitless night camping out at Lomagnupur waiting for an aurora, I awoke to this dreamy blanket of fog and fresh snow

Arctic Swirl
2 and half minute exposure capturing the movement of water, clouds and ice fragments at the magnificent Godafoss waterfall

Balancing Act
The title refers to the fact that I was standing on one of these slowly sinking fragments of ice as I photographed Mount Kirkjufell

Take My Breath Away
A combination of reflection and water motion at the Vestrahorn Mountain in Stokksnes

Winter Shine
While the pandemic was starting to unfold big time around the world, I was staying in the town of Grundarfydour in awe of sights like Mount Kirkjufell

Glass
After waiting out a storm the night before, I was treated to these calm conditions with tasty looking waves at sunrise

Aloft
Nothing like a telephoto of a mighty Icelandic peak to put mankind in perspective yet ironically as I made this image, the second smallest organism in the world was also starting to expose the fragility of humankind

What Lies Beneath
Fog creating some interesting atmosphere among these Iceland mountains using a telephoto perspective

Wraith
Probably my favourite image at this location when a wicked rain storm swept through around sunrise

A Horse With No Name
After 3 trips I finally managed to photograph a cooperative Icelandic horse in front of a background I liked

The Winter's Tale
Third Iceland trip lucky when I finally captured the beautiful Godafoss with a thick blanket of pristine fresh snow

Heart of Winter
Diamond ice beach fragment, water motion on a black sand beach creates the illusion of ice casting a mysterious shadow

The Thing
While Kirkjufell is often referenced in association with Game of Thrones, this is a homage to John Carpenter's horror classic "The Thing"

Don't Dream It's Over
My first visit in Stokksnes was a day which started off with multiple snow storms, clearing out in the evening to reveal a starry sky

Offshore Haven
Telephoto perspective towards Vik with the offshore spray catching sunset light quite mesmerising

Winter Wind
The right combination of elements came together during my first trip to Iceland : nice peaks in the background, frozen foreground and snow blowing in the right direction

Tranquility
I waited out 2 days of blizzard conditions and made sure I was first on the scene as soon as it cleared to capture the snow before it became churned up by the bus loads of visitors Kirkjufell gets everyday

Lord of Sea and Sky
Drone view towards the Vik rock stacks during a beautiful sunset with nicely groomed waves

Go Big or Go Home
A scene which shows the perspective of humanity in reference to the world using the glaciated landscape of Iceland

Elusive
After 2 previous trips trying to get a satisfactory photo of Lomagnupur, when I came across these foggy conditions and some semi frozen pools, finally a keeper was on the cards

Freeze Frame
A memorable day when numerous snowstorms hit Kirkjufell around sunset and I made this image during one of the clearings

Winter's Grace
Dettifoss is such a majestic and large scale waterfall I felt it was better to capture its graceful cascades than outright might

The Last Snow
This particular trip I had given up hope of catching Godafoss in fresh snow with the weather warming up and forecasts looking grip, but miracles to happen

Aura
The eerie glow of the northern lights hovers over the Vestrahorn mountains during a long exposure

Apparition
Hung out at Lomagnupur all night hoping for an aurora which never eventuated but woke up to this instead
